SUMMARY:
The Director of Business Engagement is a newly created position at Workforce Snohomish (WFS). We are seeking a strong, business driven leader that will build a business engagement team that advances strategies aligned with WFS and the Snohomish County Future Workforce Alliance’s strategic plans. The Director of Business Engagement is responsible for developing a network of business partners from a range of industries in the Snohomish County region resulting in sustainable partnerships with the Snohomish County workforce development system. The ideal candidate will need to be flexible and adaptable in assuming a wide variety of roles and responsibilities, as we collaboratively undertake this positive transformation while maintaining a strong commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion and community-engagement.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Leadership Capabilities
- Leads with a hands-on and highly collaborative approach with direct reports, all team members, and with other departments such as Finance, Communications, Business, and Operations.
- Drives accountability to implement written policies, procedures and performance measurements for all team members and external stakeholders.
- Works with leadership to foster strong intra-agency collaboration and support from other departments to meet team and company needs.
- Attracts, retains and develops an outstanding team of dedicated and effective professionals.
- Strong motivational and interpersonal skills that drive team performance and outcomes.
Strategic Priorities
- Collaboratively lead the development and execution of County Business Retention and Expansion Team to support proactive engagement with business across the county in targeted sectors.
- Lead a multi-industry business engagement strategy to support participants in career exploration, work readiness, postsecondary planning, and transition into employment.
- Develop technical assistance strategy for service providers best practices to ensure that employer relationships yield desired outcomes for all parties.
- Understand employer motivations, priorities, pain points, and success stories in working with the workforce development system.
- Oversee recruitment of new and maintenance/expansion of current employer partnerships.
- Work closely with partners to deliver needed support from the employer community for the full range of workforce development activities.
- Lead the design of CRM and manage internal record-keeping and data sharing (through a CRM or other technology solution/s) and help report relevant outcomes to the public.
- Define and support the development of process and reporting documentation to support high standards of practice, continuous improvement, reporting and continuity of effort.
- Leads initiatives to expand system capabilities through the full implementation of Workforce Compass, emphasizing skill-based hiring and improved connections between employers and job seekers.
- Cultivates, coordinates, and oversees employer-connected training investments, in collaboration with WFS staff, WIOA subrecipients and training providers.
Communication
- Excellent communication skills, including strong listening, written, verbal, and presentation skills.
- Demonstrated skills with Microsoft Office Suite and CRM/Salesforce.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- A bachelor’s degree or equivalent of five years of business engagement, sales, workforce development, human resources or other related fields of work.
- Demonstrated commitment to valuing equity and diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.
- Commitment to meaningfully engaging small business, particularly minority, women and veteran owned.

- Ability to work in a team environment and with diverse populations.
- Ability to multi-task, prioritizes work for self, and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Continually seeks to understand and improve impact and effectiveness of programs.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Ability to perform a range of physical motions including but not limited:
- May be seated for periods of time, and occasionally may have to lift boxes or other materials that weigh up to 25 lbs.
