SUMMARY / OBJECTIVE

Under the strategic leadership of the Director of Financial Empowerment, the Financial Coach and Community Educator will help build financial education curricula, conduct workshops for program participants, and offer personalized financial coaching services. This role involves collaborating with both internal and external stakeholders, such as community organizations, government agencies, and the general public, to coordinate and deliver financial education services aimed at enhancing the financial health and security of the community.

This position will implement financial education and coaching services for clients engaged in workforce development programs. The role will focus on supporting clients in reaching their employment and financial security objectives. Through innovative program development and delivery, the Financial Coach and Community Educator will make a meaningful difference in improving the quality of life and personal well-being of Snohomish County residents.

Once hired, Workforce Snohomish will be investing significant resources into the training and professional development of this position in order to expand personal the subject matter expertise and coaching capabilities required to deliver high-quality, relevant and impactful financial education programming.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Work with department leadership to build financial education curricula aligned with national learning standards.
  • Integrate financial education services into workforce development programming and other community-based services.
  • Deliver financial education workshops focused on core areas of personal finance, including spending plans, credit, debt, and savings.
  • Deliver client-centered one-on-one financial coaching services and assist participants with goal setting, budgeting, credit building/rebuilding, debt repayment,
  • savings, utilization of quality financial services, and asset development.
  • Maintain knowledge of the best practices, resources and tools that can be leveraged to build and implement robust programming that fosters positive participant outcomes.
  • Track program activities, outcomes and achievements in accordance with scopes of work.
  • Build and maintain relationships with financial institutions, community partners, and financial education entities.Market and promote department services at community forums and outreach events.
  • Demonstrate a passion for financial education and empowerment and a belief in its ability to improve the security and well-being of individuals and families in our community.

  • Skilled at developing trusting relationships with program participants and community partners
  • Detail-oriented, with a willingness to learn new skills and techniques to promote quality, efficiency and successful program outcomes.
  • Ability to gather, analyze and interpret data to inform decision-making.
  • Strong presentation and public speaking skills
  • Experience in curriculum and/or workshop development
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Tech savvy with proficiency in common desktop applications
  • Commitment to valuing equity and diversity; ability to contribute to an inclusive work environment.

DESIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • Bilingual with fluency in English and Spanish

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Certification or credential in Financial Coaching, Education, Teaching, Training or related field desired OR the ability to earn one within 180 days of being hired
  • Experience designing and delivering classroom and/or workshop instruction
  • Experience working with individuals to set and achieve personal goals
  • Knowledge of core concepts associated with personal finance such as: budgeting, credit, debt, savings, assets, and other related topics
  • Lived experience or professional experience working with historically marginalized populations with barriers to employment and financial security

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is typically performed sitting at a computer desk or in a classroom setting. Workdays and hours are subject to need and availability to ensure operational coverage throughout the work week. However, daily demands may require occasional early arrivals, late departures, extended hours, as well as weekend or holiday work

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Frequently sits for extended periods while performing desktop activities
  • Repetitively uses hands and wrists on computers and telephone
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds

TRAVEL REQUIRED
Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.
